CPM SPY27 is a steel produced by Crucible exclusively for Spyderco. The steel looks somewhat similar to S35VN but with increased Nb and N, decreased C and V, and a 1.5% cobalt addition. The resulting steel is expected to have similar hardness and corrosion resistance to S30V and S35VN. The edge retention is likely a small step down from S35VN.I do think that Busse is probably testing out Magnacut as we speak at different hardnesses to find the optimal desired performance they want from their blades. Rest assured whatever steel comes out new or old steel will just keep improving. The powder stainless category includes Elmax, S35VN, CPM154, S30V, etc. These all have very good wear resistance (around twice 1095), but low toughness, most are just a little tougher than the 440C family.
